Virdell Thomas, MSW, LMSW, ACSW, CCS-M, CAADC, CPC-R DOT-SAP is currently the Provider Network and Program Service Director at StarrVista. In this role, she is spearheading our Youth In Custody Practice Model (YICPM) implementation within three juvenile justices residential programs and the implementation of our evidenced-based school engagement program, Check and Connect (C&C).
Ms. Thomas has always had a passion for helping others, especially youth. That passion has led to over 25+ years in the child welfare and behavioral health services field. She has an extensive administrative background in program development and compliance. Ms. Thomas is credentialed in the field of substance use disorders at the state, national and international levels. Those credentials include certified prevention consultant, advanced alcohol and drug counselor, and certified clinical supervisor. She is a State of Michigan licensed master level social worker at the macro and clinical level and is a member of the National Association of Social Work Academy of Social Workers.
Ms. Thomas received her Bachelors of Social Work from Wayne State University (WSU) in 1988 and her Master of Social Work in Administration and Community Organization with a certificate in Developmental Disabilities from Wayne State University in 1989. While pursuing her master’s degree, she worked as a research assistant at the WSU/Developmental Disabilities Institute (DDI) conducting quality of life and community integration interviews for persons with developmental disabilities, autism and mental health disorders seeking independent living housing.
