Assured Family Services (The Juvenile Assessment Center)
Court JAC Services
The Court JAC located at Third Circuit Court, is the point of entry for Child Welfare-eligible treatment referrals, At-Risk or Prevention and Juvenile Justice assignment, eligibility and registration via Third Circuit Court Orders. All documentation is processed, including referrals, court orders, case intakes and court-order referrals for services. A service provider and/or Care Management Organization (CMO) assignment is made within 24 hours of receipt and review.
Customer focus and responsiveness is the primary guide for the Court JAC staff. Assuring that families understand what has and will occur, and that the Jurists are served timely and accurately with data entry and client information correct, is the primary function of the Court JAC. Careful attention to the Wayne County Juvenile Detention Facility population assures that youth are not detained unnecessarily and that there is available bed space for new admissions with appropriate transfers to private detention facilities, releases and alternative detention resources coordination.
Choices Program - C.H.O.I.C.E.S., which stands for Community Health, Outreach, Intervention and Clinical Engagement Services, is a specialized outpatient community mental health treatment program at the JAC that provides intensive, community based individual and family counseling as well as group therapy services. C.H.O.I.C.E.S. provides effective service delivery within a trauma informed system of care utilizing empirically supported and evidenced based modalities.
Through therapy, substance abuse education and treatment and parent education, C.H.O.I.C.E.S. clinicians help improve the quality of life for youth and families, empowering them to restore successful living, improve healthy psychological functioning, promote the learning of new skills for successful relationships and ultimately promote safer communities. The C.H.O.I.C.E.S. program provides services to at-risk, diversion and adjudicated youth and families, and to individuals throughout Wayne County. Services for court involved youth are designed to prevent contact with the juvenile justice system, to prevent further penetration into the juvenile justice system and to successfully navigate toward positive termination from the juvenile justice system.
This program provides a wide variety of therapies that have proven to be effective in dealing with child and family issues. Most sessions will take place in the privacy of the family home, but can also be scheduled at the AFS office or other sites. The Guidance Center - Multi-Systemic Therapy (MST) was created for children and adolescents aged 12-17 years old struggling with chronic, delinquent behavior as well as youth with severe emotional issues. Developed at the Medical University of South Carolina, the 3-5 month MST program at Child Guidance supportively and proactively addresses troublesome behaviors and helps your child move in a positive direction. MST is evidence-based with over 20 years of research proving its effectiveness.
MST provides a complete functional assessment of your child in his/her family, school and community settings. We seek to understand the fit between your child’s struggles and the factors that contribute to them. We also focus on helping parents or caregivers like you build supportive networks and empower you to address the needs of your child and effectively change his/her behavior. As a result, over 85% of youth who complete the MST program remain in school or working, and 87% of parents feel significantly more confident in their parenting skills after completion of MST.
